Smith has performed the new SPECTRE theme “Writing on the Wall” he recorded back in January and co-written with James Jimmy Napes who also previously worked with Sam on his super-hit tunes including Stay With Me, and La La La.
This James Bond latest tune will be available for purchase as a CD or vinyl single, and stream from 25th September and can be pre-ordered from midnight. The Grammy Award winner first teases all Bond fans via tweeting and instagramming the picture of his hand with silver ring emblazoned with SPECTRE logo, but today Sam officially announced that he is doing the iconic job.
Sam Smith tweeted that “I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.” He further added that he is so excited to be the part of iconic British legacy. While chatting with Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw Sam said that he is so relived to actually talk about this matter, he told “This has been a top secret mission of my own.”
The renowned British singer revealed all the details how he got the job, Sam said he got a call from co-producer Barbara Broccoli and director Sam Mendes, they provided him the movie script and told “Have a go at the song”. Smith also unveiled that it is the quickest song he ever written, it took him only 20 minutes to write this upcoming Bond theme Writing on the Wall. Bond film producers Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli also loved new title track, they said “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.”
Although Sam finally disclosed that he has performed the new Bond theme but he denied couple of times that he isn’t doing the job, just last week while talking to BBC radio 2 Sam again refused to perform the title, in Addition he also rumored that Ellie Goulding has got the shot. It is the first time since 1965 that Bond theme has been performed solely by British singer. Tom Jones was the last solo British singer to record Bond theme of Thunderball.
Sam Smith tweeted for all his and 007 fans that he hopes they will enjoy the song as much as he did while doing it, and further added that he is so excited to join his own biggest musical inspirations.
